11th May 2020 Update from Mrs Collins

Dear Parents,

As we move through the month of May and consider all the changes impacting on school goers and school communities, there is a lot to process for all of us; teachers, parents and children alike.  In May we always celebrate First Communion, we welcome our new Junior Infants for their first visit and we enjoy the annual Sponsored Walk and Fun Run.  So instead, our Second Class teachers are posting a special message to the girls and boys in their classes this week and we are writing to the families of the new Junior Infants to keep them posted on the news, as it becomes available to us.  We are also planning an Active Week for early June to coincide with our usual Fun Run time.

Sincere thanks to all who completed the recent survey, we have made some changes and continue to work on new ways to be in touch and support you at home.  We appreciate the huge efforts of all families to keep going at this time.  It’s not easy we know.  Our school psychologist has sent the link below to a Stress Management course, which some parents and teachers may find interesting and helpful for themselves.  Some good news also came through recently from our Green Schools Team that we have been awarded the Third Flag for Water Conservation – Well Done everyone a massive achievement!  It will be yet another thing to celebrate in style when we are back together again.  Below is an extract from the letter to cheer your hearts 🙂

In the meantime, we are sending you every good wish.

Yours sincerely,

Heidi Collins, Olivia Barrett and all of the staff at SFXJNS.

Letter from An Taisce

Dear Green-Schools Coordinator,

I am delighted to inform you that your application for the renewal of your Green Flag has been successful. The team at Green-Schools were very impressed with your application, congratulations! Please pass on all our thanks to all the hard-working members of your Green-Schools committees, and everyone in the school.

You all deserve a huge amount of credit for your efforts. The work that you are doing is really having a positive impact, and when the work of all schools is combined it’s truly amazing!

Unfortunately, due the current situation, we are not in a position to hold our Green-Schools Awards Ceremonies this year which is such a shame as we absolutely love to celebrate with everyone around the country. As soon as the schools re-open we will ensure you receive your Green Flag and certificate and hope that you can celebrate with a flag raising in your own school when possible.

In the meantime, please keep an eye on our social media channels where we hope you can join us to celebrate online at the end of the month.

Congratulations again on your success.

Cathy Baxter – Green-Schools Manager
