Active School

The Active School Flag is a Department of Education & Skills initiative which sets to recognise schools that strive to achieve a physically active school community. It allows schools to reinforce the message that not only is physical activity good for you but it also very enjoyable. It provides schools with an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the physical activity opportunities that are available in their locality and to work collaboratively with students, parents and members of the community.

St Francis Xavier JNS actively promotes the message that children require 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day. We have a very active school and we received our first flag in 2017. We are hoping to renew our Active School Flag as often as possible. Our school has always been very aware of the importance of physical activity and the benefits it holds for adults and children alike. We are an inclusive school where all ASF school activities are planned so they are accessible by all pupils.

St. Francis Xavier JNS has brought about a number of improvements to increase pupil physical activity level. These include:

In order to renew our Active School Flag we elect an active school committee in the form of our students. The committee is made up of pupils from all classes and they are busy throughout the year organising lots of fun and physical activities. Ms. Reilly, Ms. Barrett, Ms. Dervan, Ms. Casey, Ms. Healy, Ms. Deasy and Ms. Creaner are also on the active school committee.
